Back to normal

Filed under: Canada, Home, Kayak — K2 in Canada @ 10:56 PM

Yep, we are back to normal – weather-wise that is. Rainfall warning just ended – apparently we got 60mm over night last night – wind warning still in effect – 60+km/h. I didn’t even want to get up this morning…can’t remember when I stayed in bed till 10AM. Read or played on the computer all morning. Until all of a sudden  just after noon our yellow living room lit up with sunshine and the rain had stopped although it was still windy. Jeff and I were up in a second and ready to go outside – he went for a jog, I went to the lake for a paddle. But not until after we discovered water dripping out of our bed room ceiling…looked like a very small leak. So we put a bucket underneath and left anyhow. The illusion of the weather improving didn’t last long. By the time I got to the lake it started raining again on and off – nothing like the downpour this morning though. I was determined to paddle but decided because of the wind and more wind in the forecast to take the stable Tornado K1 again rather than my boat. Not a day to be falling in even though there was no more ice on the lake. I managed to get just under 18km in before I got too tired and cold. It was a wet, windy paddle but for the most part the wind gusts stayed down for me until just at the end when a whole bunch of rowers came out onto the lake. I think those guys are having a training camp – I felt sorry for them. The sun tried to poke through the clouds again but the wind definitely picked up quite a bit and shifted to more cross-wind. That cannot be fun when you got to do time trials…

When I got back home the water leak had long stopped – hardly covered the bottom of the bucket. No parts of the ceiling came down like last time. Nevertheless, we need to get that checked out soon but the urgency is gone. We finished off the day with going to the movies – “The Hobbit – Desolation of Smaug” in 3D. It’s a wonderful movie and the effects are great but why stretch out a 100 page book over 3 movies….
