Lots of rain FINALLY meant lots of snow in the local mountains…

Filed under: Canada, Ski — K2 in Canada @ 7:26 PM

There is no way though we would go up Cypress on a weekend – it must have been a zoo. So we went back to Manning again – they still have the most snow. Yesterday they got 48cm and it was still snowing today (while raining at home) with the air temperature just below zero. The tracks were pretty good for classics but not for skating due to all the fresh snow that kept coming down after they groomed this morning. With all the fresh snow, it was slow going even with my crowns. I have never had snow stick to the bottom of those skis – and I am not only talking about the kick area but also the glide area. SOMEONE better waxes my skis this week for next weekends loppet. We went onto the regular trail system today, up to the bottom of the ski lift via “North Gibsons”, three laps around “Strawberry Flats” and back via “South Gibsons”. The ski-lift is only 200m above the lodge but with all the ups and downs on the trails the gain adds up to 500m on my GPS – climbing up 900m without the views was not going to happen today (see last weeks post). It still took about 3hrs even though I hardly stopped for pictures but I had to work almost as hard going down as going up.
