Another weekend in town

Filed under: Canada, Hike — K2 in Canada @ 11:24 PM

This time because I was invited to a wedding by my ex-colleague and good friend Tim. He met his wife here in Vancouver and I was the reason that he moved here from San Diego 10 or so years ago. I hired him for my team back in the days. Since then I have left the company and we kinda lost touch a bit. We get together maybe once a year and I was a positively surprised to see the invite. It was a wonderful lazy day. I got a short paddle in in the morning taking my surfski out on the river. Then met up with another ex-colleague and good friend, Heide, for lunch on her boyfriends yacht. Then the wedding being held in another Marina with views of the ocean. The ceremony was short and sweet which gave lots of time to chat with many more ex-colleagues that also were invited to the wedding. Then Heide took me back to her boyfriend’s house high up on the mountains side in Lionsbay. What a VIEW!!! We just hung out and relaxed till it was time to go back home.

Today was another awesome warm sunny day – perfect for all sorts of things… Jeff and I went for a hike up in Golden Ears Park. We only dared Alouette Mtn today – it is quite lengthy (22km round trip) but the grade is fairly easy for the most part (1100m gain). Most of it goes through beautiful 2nd growth forest with still some giant around. And the view from the top are exceptional on a clear day like today. All the way to the ocean and across the valley to Mount Baker (USA). Jeff actually picked this hike because we could stop in at the Gillnetter’s Pub for dinner. The $10 BBQ baby back ribs are still the best deal in the lower mainland.

  1. Those views on your hike are stunning. And the pub sounded yummy too. I wish the kids had stamina for 22kms!
