What’s wrong with winter heather

Filed under: Canada — K2 in Canada @ 7:22 AM

On Sunday afternoon I planted some winter heather to fill up the brown spots where the heather we planted in the spring had died during the long hot summer. It added just this little bit of colour one craves in the winter once in a while. Later on, it was past 9PM and dark we decided to go for a short walk. Jeff had been sick and indoors all day so I figured he needed some fresh air. When I turned on the outside light I noticed that “someone” had dug up all 4 new plants in the last 3hrs! Only the newly planted stuff, not the older ones. Who on earth would do something like that? I had planted them fairly well so it must have taken some effort to get them out. I doubt our local squirrels could have done it. So my first thought was raccoon? But why just pull them out and leave them just sitting next to the hole? Anyhow, I replanted everything after we came back from out short walk and it has been quiet since….

Winter heather – hope it makes it through winter. There is snow in the forecast for Christmas.
