Local Birds

This afternoon – after the rain finally stopped – Jeff and I went for a walk along the river. And it seemed to be bird watching day today. Saw 2 eagles, tons of little birds like Robins, Chickadees, Rufus-sided Towhees as well as two hummingbirds. Pretty cool! Hummingbirds are amazing. Apparently they spend the winter in Mexico and come all the way up here to breed. They sure don’t look like they can fly long distances. They are blistering fast mind you. The first one was gone before my camera even started up. The second one taunted us by sitting still until just before I released the shutter… but he stuck around long enough for us to at least watch him scoot around a bit. So I cheated and found a picture on the net. I am sure it looked like a Ruby-throated or Broad-tailed Hummingbird. But neither of these two species is really supposed to be found in BC…
